What we collect, what we do not, and why it does not take long to read.
Last updated: September 2026
The short version. Provenant does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. Everything stays on your device. No account required, no analytics, no telemetry, ever.
Data collection
Provenant collects no data of any kind. The application sends no analytics and no crash reports, and includes no tracking or advertising SDKs.
There is nothing to opt out of and there are no privacy settings to configure. The application declares no network capability of its own.
Your 3D assets
The models, textures and folders you scan are read from your local machine and stay there. Nothing is uploaded, shared, or transmitted anywhere by the application, and all analysis happens on your own device. Reports you export are written wherever you choose to put them.
Provenant never rewrites your FBX, OBJ, DAE, STL, PLY or 3DS files. When it repairs something it edits textures, material files or your engine's import settings instead, and keeps a backup of anything it changes. glTF and GLB are the one kind of model file it will rewrite, and only when you ask it to apply a scale fix.
Application data
Provenant keeps a local index of the assets you have scanned, your
licence records, tags, collections and settings, in a database at
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Provenant\ on your device. Licence
records are also mirrored to a human-readable JSON file in the same
place, so your attribution data survives even if the index is lost.
Thumbnails are cached in that folder too. Backups of files Provenant has changed are written to a timestamped folder there rather than mixed in with your assets. None of it ever leaves your machine, and all of it can be deleted by removing that folder.
Diagnostics
Provenant writes one local log file,
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Provenant\licensing-log.txt, recording
the result of purchase and licence checks with the Microsoft Store.
It exists so a failed purchase can be diagnosed at all. It contains
Store status codes and error numbers, not information about you or
your files, it is capped in size, and it is never transmitted
anywhere.
Licence and purchase
The Pro unlock is a one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by the Microsoft Store. Provenant asks Windows whether that purchase is active, which the operating system answers through the Store. The application never sees payment details, never contacts a server of its own, and runs no licence infrastructure. The entitlement belongs to your Microsoft account rather than to the machine, and nothing about it is cached to disk. For how Microsoft handles your purchase data, see Microsoft's privacy policy.
Windows features you control
If you have enabled it in Windows, the operating system may include Provenant's local data in your OneDrive app-data backup. That is a Windows feature acting under your own account, not the application sending anything anywhere, and it can be turned off in Windows settings.
Third-party components
Provenant uses the following open-source libraries. None of them collect user data:
- Assimp, via SharpAssimp, for reading 3D model formats (BSD 3-Clause)
- SharpGLTF for reading and writing glTF and GLB (MIT)
- SixLabors.ImageSharp for image decoding and encoding (Apache 2.0 under the Six Labors split licence)
- CommunityToolkit.Mvvm (MIT)
- Microsoft.Data.Sqlite and Microsoft.Extensions.DependencyInjection (MIT)
Licence tracking is not legal advice
Provenant records what you tell it about where an asset came from and what you are allowed to do with it, and detects what it reasonably can from files alongside your assets. It is a record-keeping tool. It does not verify licence terms, does not certify compliance, and checking that you are actually permitted to use something remains your responsibility.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, for example if a future version adds optional crash reporting, it will be updated here with a new date, and changes will be noted in the app's release notes. The current policy, as written above, is simple: we collect nothing.
